Business Support & Industrial/Business Park Infrastructure

Business Support Infrastructure

At the heart of Cape Breton is the significant urban core of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM). With a population of 97,398 this is the second largest concentration of urban population in Nova Scotia (by a wide margin) and the fourth largest urban centre in the Maritime provinces. CBRM offers a full range of business services and support.

The towns of Port Hawkesbury and Mulgrave are the support service centres for the Strait of Canso industrial corridor. In addition, firms have the ability to set up in smaller communities around the island where they may access land, buildings, broadband, skilled labour and a good mix of local service providers.

Real Estate

Downtown Sydney offers a number of class A and B commercial buildings for firms looking to set up or expand. There are several other real estate options in urban Sydney and surrounding communities. For companies that prefer a smaller community, Port Hawkesbury has commercial buildings that can accommodate these types of businesses.

For start-ups looking for full service technology incubation, Innovacorp’s  incubation facility in Sydney provides office and laboratory space, as well as access to a central receptionist, accounting, project and innovation management services.

Some private and nonprofit sector companies such as Ventures Solutions Inc. and New Dawn Enterprises also offer incubation space and support services to start-ups.

Industrial and Business Parks

Business parks, industrial parks and business/ industrial malls are located around the island. For companies looking to purchase or lease existing facilities, buildings are available with up to 100,000 square feet of available space. This infrastructure offers tremendous opportunities for business start-up ventures and business expansion.
